Written and composed by Alan Hovhaness in 1969, the 45-minute, single-movement Shambala, a violin and sitar concerto,is one of the most eagerly-awaited Hovhaness discoveries of recent times. Commissioned by Yehudi Menuhin, and almost 40 years after it was written, this concerto received it's world-premiere broadcast in January 2008. And very appropriately, one of India 's leading and highly-respected musicians, Gaurav Majumdar, has undertaken the duties on sitar. |
